Depending on your industry and geographical location certain laws and data protection regulations may apply to your digital transformation initiative. European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is one of the recent additions to the European legal system to protect the privacy and digital rights of the European citizens. It requires businesses to be compliant by May 25th 2018.
GDPR mainly addresses four key areas. Data Transparency, GDPR obliges businesses that European citizens will have transparency on how their personal data is processed. Data Portability, businesses must make it easier to transfer personal data between other service providers. Right to be Forgotten, businesses must erase personal data of individuals, when there are no legal grounds for retaining or processing personal data. And lastly, Breach notification, businesses must notify the national supervisory authority of data breaches as soon as possible.
